If you have an odor in your home, office, apartment or car identifying its source and addressing the problem is the best way to keep your indoor air smelling fresh. Here are some helpful tips to help eliminate odors, regardless of the source.

Air it out

Begin by opening up your windows and doors to allow air to flow through your home, even in cold weather , air out smelly spaces frequently with fresh air. Try circulating stale air with a fan to invite new air in from the outside or another area

Sunlight

For anything that smells in your house or office that can be easily moved, we recommend moving it outside into direct sunlight. The ultraviolet rays of the sun can kill mold and bacteria.

Plus, the heat – in combination with the wind – will dry out any moisture locked inside.

Skunk Odor

Did your dog encounter a skunk?

Try this veterinarian-recommended formula: one quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, one cup baking soda and one teaspoon mild dish-washing detergent (make sure it doesn’t contain ammonia or bleach). Mix together and rub throughout the dog’s coat. Be sure to avoid getting it in his eyes! Then bathe the dog with a mild pet shampoo and rinse well. Repeat as necessary.

Blot is best for cleaning Pet Urine and other Spills

If you spill something on upholstered furniture or carpet, car seats ), blot the excess liquid from the area with a plush towel , several paper towels or even a roll up news paper . Apply pressure to the towel into the spot with your hand or foot. Don’t rub; rubbing only works the spill or accident and odors farther into fabrics. Soak up as much as you can, then leave the spot to dry. Blotting takes up excess moisture that can lead to that musty smell caused by mold and mildew.
